The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) recently carried out raids in Thane, Maharashtra, and Bharuch, Gujarat, finding large amounts of illegal drugs.
In Thane, the ATS discovered 800 kg of liquid mephedrone worth ₹800 crore. They arrested Mohammad Yunus Shaikh and his brother Mohammad Adil Shaikh, who had been making the drug in a rented flat for about eight months. This raid was connected to an earlier bust in Surat, where three people linked to the Shaikh brothers were arrested.

In Bharuch, the ATS seized liquid Tramadol worth ₹31 crore and arrested Pankaj Rajput, a chief chemist, and Nikhil Kapuria, a chemical trader. They were producing Tramadol, a restricted substance, using materials from Harshad Kukadiya in Ahmedabad. Efforts are ongoing to catch others involved.
Additionally, on July 29, Customs seized 68 lakh Tramadol tablets worth ₹110 crore at Mundra port, intended for West Africa. The arrested individuals confirmed that their network produced and exported these tablets. Tramadol is known as a 'fighter drug' used by ISIS fighters to stay awake for long periods.
